Demand Accountability in our Criminal Justice System – Starting With Ending the County’s “Catch and Release” Jail Policies

Santa Clara County – led by Supervisor Cindy Chavez – is continuing a policy that releases serious and violent offenders even after they repeatedly violate the terms of their pre-trial release.

There are many individuals who have been arrested ten or more times – but still the County refuses to change their policy of “catch and release” to protect the public and to promote the kind of behavior that gets people back on the right track.

Tell Santa Clara County – Time to End This Dangerous Policy!

San Jose police are reporting that between January 2020 and April 2022 they have arrested 43 individuals who went on to be arrested 10 or more times each. One offender has been accused of committing 34 or more crimes while under the “supervision” of Santa Clara County. That means there are now hundreds of victims of crime who have the right to ask their County government why they are continually re-releasing individuals who persist in committing serious criminal offenses.

This continued release of people who then go on to commit new crimes is dangerous for the community – and it does not help those in the criminal justice system. Holding people accountable for their behavior is how we make sure people get back on the right track.

It’s time to hold everyone accountable.
